Q: What is this about?
A: 2nd Shek Cheng Arsenal is a community for exploring and experimenting alternative technologies.
Q: Where does the name come from? Where's the first arsenal, if it ever existed?
A: The name comes from the first Shek Cheng Arsenal in Canton City; its predecessor, the Canton Bureau of Machinery, first established in 1873 and later merged with a bullet factory in Shek Cheng. The original factory moved multiple times during the Chinese civil war between Kuomingtang and the CCP, and it is now defunct.
The logo of 2nd Shek Cheng Arsenal is inspired by the stamp of the original factory, which would often appear on the manufactured weapons.

A: In our context the phrase "alternative technology" refers to unconventional methods and techniques for putting things into action; this includes but is not limited to free-and-open-source computer-aided design and manufacturing, entry engineering, secrecy maintenance and communication channel engineering and maintenance.
